Competition “Today guest, tomorrow owner”

Hafenstreet 34 – one of the most sought-after vacant sites in Münster, Germany which has been used as a long-distance bus stop to date.
As part of the Bundesverband Bausysteme e.V. competition Heute Gast, morgen Eigentümer a respectable hotel is now being generated on this site which is to be converted into a cosy residential building later on.

The main idea was to generate a massive frame on the ground floor including access cores in the first construction phase, including a community and urban gardening concept. An extension and connection of the prefabricated wooden modules is required in the second construction phase, as well as the prefabricated corridor elements. After that only the outstanding insulation follows, as well as façade modules and roofing elements which are also delivered to the construction site prefabricated as far as possible.

Our centrepiece is located within the massive frame: an inner courtyard that may be used for temporary visitors, such as restaurant goers, as well as for long-term residents for communal cultivation areas. By adapting the roofs to the neighbouring buildings in the form of terraces, we are also creating green spaces for people to stay and meet which are intended to improve communication and the urban climate (?). The individual modules made of glulam plywood are visible to the hotel visitor, later resident, and not only create a healthy homely indoor climate, but also show an awareness of and with the (?) materials used.
